WEEKLY FINDS

My new website and blog are more than a week old now. You know that feeling when you get a new notebook, after you’ve spent so much time looking for the One? It’s all nice and new, and clean. You open it and start writing on the first page… You want it to look very neat, so you are careful with your handwriting. And it does look pretty! Then the second page comes, and scribbles appear. It’s not bad, you just start using the notebook in a way it’s supposed to be used!

So, this year I’ve decided to blog more for my brides and my readers. I’m going to start  a regular feature, which will appear once a week. I will be sharing ideas on wedding styling, inspiration I find on the web, links to other blogs, which I think could be of interest to my brides, inspirational photography etc. Sometimes it will be non-wedding related, but more personal. I think it will take a more definitive shape with time. At the moment it’s more of a collection of random ideas)) Anyway, the first feature is of course about all things pretty and yellow, which is my favourite colour, and it’s in my logo as well))

Found on http://designsponge.com . Love this combination of yellow and peachy pink. Flowers and lemons make a simple cake look so pretty and whimsical!

Found on http://stylemepretty.com . The little round-shaped yellow flowers are called Craspedia. Will cheer up any bouquet or buttonhole! In fact the groom from one of the weddings I photographed last year was wearing a buttonhole with craspedia flower in it. It represented his love for tennis! Here it is:

Hope you enjoyed it! Feel free to leave your feedback in the comments about what you would like to see more of! Till next time,

Dasha

Oh nice idea! I love that flower as well, it works well with that cactus looking plant thing…no idea what it’s called but it’s not spiky!

Nice feature Dasha, I also love those Craspedia flowers, really makes a bouquet or buttonhole pop.

CIVIL PARTNERSHIP CEREMONY IN LONDON

My second proper post on my new blog! I promise I will stop counting next time, but I’m still very excited about it! Thank you everyone for your great feedback – means a lot to me!

Hope everyone got to enjoy the snow here in UK over the last couple of days! We all know it might be a bit of a nightmare with trains not going, planes not flying, and everything generally coming to a standstill. But honestly, snow can be enjoyable! Snow fights, snowman, and just that freshness in the air remind me about winters in my home country, where everything is covered with white stuff for 4 or sometimes even 5 months. It also makes everything look bright outside, even at night time!:)

Today I want to share a beautiful Civil Partnership ceremony I second-shot with my friend Antonina Mamzenko of Memories Enclosed last year in May. My own weddings took over at that point, so I never got around to blogging these images.

Apart from helping out my friend, I really enjoyed shooting my first ever civil partnership ceremony! M and V are two wonderful ladies, who have known together for a while, and have gone through thick and thin together.  The whole day was absolutely beautiful and very emotional from start to finish. They got ready together in a hotel in Richmond Park with a few very close friends and family:

Love this intimate moment with mum…

Onto the ceremony and reception venue – Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park:

I loved every minute of the reception! The speeches had everyone in stitches and then happy tears. The meal was delicious. M and V hired a caricaturist to entertain their guests, and one of the best bands I’ve heard in a long time for the evening dancing!

NEW WEBSITE AND JANUARY ROUND-UP

Hello to all my followers and readers! This is the first post on my BRAND NEW BLOGSITE!!!! This new fully html website has been in the making for a few months, and I’m so happy (and relieved) it’s finally all done and up&running! You should be able to see the same design and functionality across all devices. I hope the design of my new site reflects what Exhibit Emotions Photography is all about and showcases my work. It’s combined with my blog, so it’s a lot easier to see and keep-up with my new weddings and shoots. I also have a couple of new features coming to the blog this year, so keep an eye on it! It will be something quite different for me as a wedding photographer, but I hope you will like it and my brides and couples will enjoy reading it)) One of the features will start in February (which is actually THIS MONTH!!!), and another one in March. Feel free to leave your feedback in the comment box bellow. There are also links underneath it to connect with me on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.

January was a very busy month, which I didn’t expect at all! It’s a good thing though, as I managed to avoid that transition from long Christmas holidays, and jumped into working almost straight away. I booked a lot of weddings with wonderful couples, I designed and launched my new website, I joined the gym for the first time in my life! Ever! I’ve never thought I would like it or enjoy it, but it actually makes me feel better and healthier! I booked the flights for my mum to come and visit us here in London)) I miss her so much, and she has never been here before, so needless to say I cannot wait!!!! Now that I booked the flights for her, her visit feels real and fast approaching:)

In case you missed my blog posts, I blogged a beautiful Dublin Wedding I photographed at the end of December. Tracy and Colm are a very special couple, who had a long-distance relationship for quite a while. They will finally be together for good very soon! So excited for them!

I also blogged this At Home pre-wedding shoot, which was quite different for me, as most of the time I do these shoots outside. I loved it! I loved meeting Stephanie and Gary who are super fun and easy-going. I’m really looking forward to their wedding at the end of this month!

I hope your January was good! Let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments below! After this month I’m pretty much ready for spring, warm weather and sunshine)) Bring it on!

INTIMATE DUBLIN WEDDING – TRACY AND COLM

You might remember Tracy and Colm from their pre-wedding shoot in Richmond. They are the most wonderful, fun and loving people, who’ve gone through a lot to be together. They got married in an intimate ceremony in Dublin at the very end of December. It wasn’t the brightest of days weather wise, and it was raining a lot, but Tracy and Colm were smiling and looked so happy and in love. Luckily the downpour stopped when we needed to take photos outside, and we enjoyed taking a stroll along Georgian streets of Dublin. We even found a blossoming tree (in the middle of winter!), so we couldn’t miss the opportunity to take some portraits next to it. It was very beautiful, and so unusual for this time of the year.
Tracy got ready in the Schoolhouse Hotel together with her best friend. I liked the calm atmosphere of the morning))
Thank you to Tracy and Colm and their families for having me as part of their day! It was a pleasure! Wishing you all the happiness in the world in your new life together. You really deserve it!
Lots of love,
Dasha

RUMMAGING IN THE ATTIC, AND OLD FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHS

As some of you may know, we went to Ireland for Christmas to spend it with hubby’s family. His parents literally have hundreds of family photographs from different times. They are all kept in boxes up in the attic, and that’s where I keep my ‘treasure box’ (not a box with treasures, mind, but a box with little things that are extremely important and valuable). So every time we are over for a visit, I like going up to the attic and rummage through boxes of stuff and look through old photographs. I could easily spend hours up there if I wasn’t called down for tea))
This time was slightly different as I discovered 2 very old photographs. One dating back to approximately 1910, and the other one (seemingly taken on a wedding day) to 1920. As long as I remember myself, I’ve always been fascinated with old photographs. I always wanted to know who were those people in them and how they lived. I took these photographs and a couple of old albums down with me, and for a couple of evenings the whole family was sitting down and looking through them. Hubby’s parents were remembering who was who, what happened when etc. We discovered a photograph of Michael’s grandfather from 1950 taken in the UK during his work on the construction of a tube station. The background behind him is plain and there’s pretty much nothing there. We were wondering what tube station it was, and how it looks completely different these days. There were wedding photographs of Michael’s grandparents from 1960. A photograph of his great-grandparents from approximately 1920. It was taken in America on their wedding day. It’s a simple photo, however, I could look at it for ages examining what they were wearing and what they looked like, how they got married.
We came to the conclusion that the other old photo from 1910 is of hubby’s father’s great-uncle. Little is known about him, and no one is sure about his name, but they know there were two brothers who served in the British Army and went to India, then on to Australia. Name of the place where the photo was taken is printed on it, so we googled it:-)It is in Pakistan now, and Wikipedia has told us it used to be a base for British legions since 1850. Fascinating! Having a copy of this photograph I will try and go to archives to find out more)) This whole thing made me think a lot about the importance of family photographs. Simple ones, funny ones, historic ones, photographs of people we love and of people we know – they are all very important!
Some of the photos on that attic are not organised, so I have a project for this year – get family albums, organise the images and write on the back who people in them were, while we still remember…
